Iranian Tanker Reportedly Attacked in Red Sea

Iran reported that one of its oil tankers was hit by a pair of missiles while cruising 60 miles off the coast of rival Saudi Arabia. The tanker was reportedly owned by the National Iranian Oil Company. Explosions from the missile strike reportedly caused oil to leak into the Red Sea, but the leak was later plugged. Meanwhile the White House has been warning Chinese shipping companies not to turn off their ships’ tracking transponders to conceal their movements so they can ship oil from Iran. The White House has been making it clear to shippers worldwide not to violate Iranian sanctions. “We’ve been messaging very heavily to the shipping companies, you don’t want to do this, it’s not worth it,” said one White House official.
