Israel Bans Omar, Tlaib from Entering Israel

Two weeks ago, Israeli officials decided to block U.S. Representatives Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., and Ilhan Omar, D-Minn. from entering Israel as part of a planned visit. Although Israel had initially decided to allow entry, it reversed its position after U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted that allowing the pair to enter Israel would “show great weakness.” Trump also tweeted, “They hate Israel & all Jewish people, & there is nothing that can be said or done to change their minds … They are a disgrace!” Political condemnation from the left was swift. Throwing Trump’s words back at him, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi branded the bar against entry a “sign of weakness.” Ilhan Omar stated that “It is an affront that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, under pressure from President Trump, would deny entry to representatives of the U.S. government.” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stuck by his guns, however, stating that their itinerary “revealed that they planned a visit whose sole objective is to strengthen the boycott against us and deny Israel’s legitimacy.” Reported by The Washington Post. Read more…
