Israel Launches Satellite; Blue and White Reneges On Promise To Appoint Arab-Speaker To Cabinet

Israel launched another spy satellite into orbit on July 7. The satellite, known as the Ofek 16, will be operated by the Israeli Defense Forces along with other satellites Israel has in orbit. It appears that Blue and White, the party of Deputy Prime Minister Benny Gantz, has reneged on a promise to appoint someone from Israel’s Arab-speaking community to a ministry position. Three days before the new government was sworn in, in May, Blue and White announced that it would appoint a minister of minority affairs—one of the ministries allocated to it under the deal with Likud—and that the minister appointed would come from the Arabic-speaking community.
