Lebanese Officials React Negatively to IRGC Declaration

Lebanese officials have taken exception to a statement made by an Iranian official that Tehran would use Lebanon as a base of operations against Israel. Morteza Ghorbani, a senior adviser to the IRGC Commander Hossein Salami, told an Iranian news agency that “If Israel makes a mistake, even the smallest one, against Iran, we will flatten Tel Aviv into dust from Lebanon.” Lebanon’s defense minister, Elias Bou Saab responded quickly, tweeting that the comments were “unfortunate and unacceptable and infringed on the sovereignty of Lebanon.” Information Minister Jamal Jarrah retorted “Iran can defend however it wants, but Lebanon is not a mailbox for the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and is not an arena for foreign use by any country.
