New HBO Series Explores Anti-Semitism in Alternate Reality, Underscoring Anti-Semitic Attacks Worldwide

In an editorial in The Times of Israel, columnist Gabe Freidman said that incidents such as those noted below (and which he specifically referenced) made the HBO program “The Plot Against America” one of the scariest shows he seen. The show is based on a book of the same name by author Phillip Roth which explores an alternate reality in which famed aviator and anti-Semite Charles Lindbergh defeated Franklin Roosevelt to win the presidency and kept the U.S. out of the Second World War. In one of the incidents cited in the editorial, a 13-year old boy from Estonia was determined to be the leader of a purported international Neo Nazi group with plots to attack a Las Vegan synagogue and detonate a car bomb at a major U.S. news network. According to news reports, the boy claimed to be the founder of the “Feuerkrieg Division.” Estonian authorities cannot prosecute the boy due to his age (or release his name), but state they have taken steps to suspend his activities in the group and minimize the danger. In Romania, a Catholic priest appeared to compare Jews to the coronavirus in a sermon.  According to a report by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, Father Francisc Dobos was speaking about how Jesus’ disciples “feared the Jews” and said, “And here in the bracket we should read: feared the virus.” Dobos says that people who accused him of anti-Semitic speech were “biased” against him.
