Yemeni Rebels Shoot Down Saudi Fighter Jet

Saudi Arabia lost a fighter jet to Houthi rebels in Yemen. Rebels claim to have shot down a Tornado fighter with a surface to air missile. The jet was supporting Yemeni government forces. The fate of the crew is unknown. Reported by The Guardian. Read more…

Saudi Arabia responded with more airstrikes. The U.N. says the strikes killed thirty-one civilians. The office of Lisa Grande, the UN coordinator for the region, said “Preliminary field reports indicate that on 15 February as many as 31 civilians were killed and 12 others injured.” Grande condemned the attacks, saying, “Under international humanitarian law, parties which resort to force are obligated to protect civilians. … Five years into this conflict and belligerents are still failing to uphold this responsibility.
